On June 8th, we sent 2 teams to Vauxhall to take part in the newly relaunched (and renamed) Capital Cup. 5 other clubs fielded teams for a total of 7. Each team played a match against the other 6, each match comprising a Singles, Doubles and Triple with 1 point for each. The Croydon teams were kept apart until the 5th Session, with Croydon 1 very much in the running for the cup, and Croydon 2 very much … not.
It would’ve been easy, and understandable, for Croydon 2 to simply roll over but a superb win in the singles, a very hard fight in the Doubles, finishing 10-13, and Croydon 2 racing off to a 11-2 lead, to be pulled back, losing 11-13 all meant that Croydon 1 had been seen to get their 2-1 win honestly. A final session win over Parakeets, saw Croydon 1 break the seemingly endless run of runners-up finishes. Croydon 2 lived up to their billing, but did not finish last. A long days play with a great finish.
