The 2024 London Cup was held on Sunday at Vauxhall. 6 clubs took part – Croydon, Hornsey, Islington, London, Parakeets and Richmond.
With 6 teams, the competition could be played as a round-robin over 5 sessions, with each team playing a singles, doubles and triples against each of the other 5. Rankings would be decided by total wins with Shots Difference being the first tie-breaker.
Croydon started a little slowly with a 1-2 defeat to Hornsey, but followed this up with clean sweeps against Richmond, Parakeets and Islington. This brought them to the final session against London with 10 wins, against London’s 11, so needing a 4th clean sweep to take the cup. Unfortunately, it was a match too far and a 2-1 win left us all square, but behind on shots difference.
The Final scores were:
London 12 wins
Croydon 12
Hornsey 8
Parakeets 8
Islington 3
Richmond 2
With the exception of a sharp shower during the 1st session, the weather was much better than forecast, ending the day really very warm. It was a great day and Carl from Hornsey should be congratulated for organising it so well.
Below, is the Croydon score sheet.
